I've had this idea for a comic in my head for quite a bit of time now. Now before you get any ideas, I'm still working of Made in Canada, but I did say before that it wasn't going to be a major project - just something small. This comic on the other hand, I want to be much larger. This is why I've started planning it out right now alongside Made in Canada. The amount of time and research it's going to take to write is going to be very huge (well, I'm guessing it's gonna be). Anyways, on to the main point.
I was very inspired by Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix and how it was presented - about a dozen self-contained short stories that all shared some similar themes and motifs, and that took place across a HUGE time span. I really wanted to be able to do something like that. So I came up with this idea about my own history and globe spanning series of short stories. This idea is "Project Butterfly"
The reason I called it Project Butterfly (that's not the title, I haven't decided on it yet) was because the main point of symbolism in all the stories is butterflies; more specifically, their process of metamorphosis. In each of the short stories I plan on incorporating some form of "metamorphosis". I've already decided on the eras and people I'm covering, what's left now is the specifics and research. Here are the ideas I have now (In the order I want to do them in)
-1934: A NKVD officer is ordered by Stalin to kill one of his comrades (Russia)
-3000: A robot gardener has the desire to become 'human'(China)
-2010: A teenage girl starts environmental awareness movements(Canada)
-1972: A rock and roll musician protests against war(America)
-1945: A Japanese orphan who is a victim of the Nagasaki bombing grows to resent Americans(Japan)
-2150: A scientist seeks to develop a super advanced, human-like AI(South Korea)
-1805: A serial killer breaks out of prison and sets out to atone for his sins(France)
So, I was just wondering: What do you guys think about it? Any thoughts or opinions?
